Cops don't make queer and trans folks safer. If anything, they put us more at risk—this is especially the case for trans women of color. ⁣

⁣⁣⁣⁣Their presence is completely antithetical to the origin of Pride: Stonewall. Stonewall was a militaristic police raid targeting lgbtqia folks that turned into a riot against oppression and transphobia. ⁣⁣⁣

Stonewall was a bar and dance club where queers could dance together without fear of getting arrested for it—or so people thought. One night, police violently raided the club and it was [one of] the first instances of lgbtqia folks standing up against a long history of cop terrorization.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
